Ancient Deities & Primordial Death-Lords

The Bone Carver (Stryga's Twin)

The Bone Carver (Stryga's Twin)

Series
First encountered in A Court of Mist and Fury (Chapter 17) when Feyre Archeron and Rhysand descend into the depths of the Prison to seek information on the King of Hybern and the Cauldron's missing feet.
About & allegiance
An ancient death-god and true immortal. He is the twin brother of Stryga (the Weaver) and the younger brother of Koschei (the Death-Lord). Long before Prythian was carved into courts, he voluntarily entered and bound himself to the Prison to hide from his stronger siblings. He is allied with the Night Court in the war against Hybern after a bargain is struck.
Home or habitat
A high-security cell within the Prison—a cold, misty mountain on an isolated island in a gray sea, protected by ancient, magic-nullifying wards.
Physical description
He has no single true form. He typically appears as an innocent, young boy with inky hair and glowing violet/blue eyes. This form is a projection of the viewer's greatest emotional point—for Feyre, he projects the face of her future son with Rhysand. In battle, he shifts into an Illyrian soldier in his prime.
Abilities
He possesses true immortality. He has the unique ability to see and carve a person's exact death into bone. Feasting on the scent of fear, he can fell hundreds of soldiers with a single breath. On the battlefield, his ivory scimitar sweeps through enemy ranks, killing soldiers instantly without leaving a physical mark.
Importance
He reveals the existence of the Book of Breathings and explains how the Cauldron's power can be negated or controlled. He joins the Prythian coalition in the final battle against Hybern after Feyre proves her worthiness by retrieving the Ouroboros mirror.
The Daglan

The Daglan

Series
Referenced historically in A Court of Silver Flames (Chapter 54) by Rhysand while discussing ancient legends of Prythian.
About & allegiance
A tyrannical race of near-gods and monsters who were the first masters of the world before the courts existed. They ruled and enslaved both humans and Fae for millennia.
Home or habitat
They ruled the entire continent of Prythian in the primordial era.
Physical description
Depicted in ancient, forgotten books of legends as tall, strange-looking beings wearing crowns.
Abilities
They possessed immense, primordial magic, drinking the magic of the land like wine. They terrorized their enslaved subjects with the Wild Hunt.
Importance
Their reign of terror was finally broken during the Age of Legends when the Fae hero Fionn rose with the sword Gwydion, casting off their chains. Their defeat led to the creation of the seven High Lords and the establishment of the modern court system.
Koschei (The Death-Lord)

Koschei (The Death-Lord)

Series
Referenced heavily in A Court of Silver Flames as the shadowy mastermind pulling Queen Briallyn's strings from across the sea.
About & allegiance
A primordial death-god and true immortal. He is the older brother of the Bone Carver and Stryga. He was bound to a lake on the continent millennia ago by an ancient spell after being outsmarted. He forms a dark alliance with the withered human queen Briallyn and High Lord Beron to destabilize Prythian.
Home or habitat
Confined to a remote, enchanted lake on the continent.
Physical description
Never directly physically encountered in the narrative, but described as as old as the sea—older. He is known as “Koschei the Deathless” because he has no death awaiting him.
Abilities
A true immortal who is the master of his own death. He possesses insidious mental influence, whispering thoughts on the wind into the courts of queens and High Lords. He holds a absolute magical leash over those who bargain with him, such as Vassa. He can winnow individuals across the sea using his immense power.
Importance
He serves as the overarching threat of A Court of Silver Flames. He orchestrates Briallyn's hunt for the Dread Trove (the Mask, Harp, and Crown) in a bid to break the ancient spell binding him to his lake, posing a catastrophic threat to both the Fae and human realms.
Lanthys

Lanthys

Series
Appears in A Court of Silver Flames (Chapters 29 and 54) when Nesta Archeron's command to the Harp accidentally unlocks his cell, culminating in a lethal confrontation.
About & allegiance
A deathless, near-primordial First God of wind, hatred, and shadow who ruled the world before the High Fae split into courts. He was the father of the Bogge race. Centuries ago, Cassian used Lanthys's immense arrogance to trick him into trapping himself in an ash-wood mirror before dumping him in the Prison.
Home or habitat
An iron-doored cell deep within the lowest levels of the Prison.
Physical description
His true form is a swirling mist of pure darkness and hatred. When physically manifested, he appears as a tall, exceptionally handsome male with broad shoulders, graceful hands, and too-long teeth that easily shift into a horrific, predatory sneer.
Abilities
A true immortal who cannot be killed by ordinary physical means. He can turn into wind to suffocate his prey by ripping the air from their lungs, or turn into rain to drown them on dry land. He can peel skin from bodies with minor movements and feasts heavily on fear, pain, and flesh.
Importance
He is freed when Nesta uses the Harp to escape her own wards, inadvertently unlocking Lanthys's cell. He corners Nesta and Cassian, trying to lure Nesta to rule as his “Queen of Queens” to resurrect the Wild Hunt and restore the ancient rule of monsters. He is permanently slain when Nesta uses her Made sword Ataraxia, combined with her silver fire and Cassian's dagger strike.

Home or habitat
A dark, thatched cottage made of hair and fat in the Middle—a vast, empty neutral territory dividing the north and south of Prythian.
Physical description
She projects a glamour of a young, supple, exceptionally beautiful woman with long, black hair. Beneath the illusion, her skin is gray, wrinkled, and dry; her nose is caved in, her eyes are rotting black pits, and her mouth consists of deep lines surrounding jagged stumps of rotted teeth.
Abilities
She is a death-god who stays eternally young and beautiful by stealing the lives and drinking the blood of young maidens. She weaves the literal lives, skins, and bodies of her victims on a massive loom. She possesses lethal, heightened senses.
Importance
She serves as Feyre's first major trial of tracking and survival outside Under the Mountain. Later, she is recruited by Helion (acting on a bargain for Rhysand) to fight against Hybern. She is brutally killed in the final battle when the King of Hybern snaps her neck and throws her to his beasts.

Last encountered in A Court of Wings and Ruin (Chapter 59) where it is ambushed and fatally shot with ash arrows by Ianthe and Hybern guards, tragically passing away in Feyre's arms.
About & allegiance
The Suriel is an ancient, truth-speaking lesser Fae creature that belongs to no Court. It is older than the High Lords, older than Prythian, and older than the bones of the world. They are an ancient, rare species with small numbers. Unlike its terrifying appearance, the Suriel is fundamentally a dreamer that wishes to leave the world a better place than how it was found. It forms a unique, emotional bond of mutual kindness with Feyre Archeron across their encounters, assisting her when no other Fae would.
Home or habitat

Physical description
It appears as a towering, exceptionally tall and thin humanoid figure with a hunched back, its spine's hard knobs clearly visible through thin, tattered dark robes and a dark veil. Its face looks as if it were crafted from dried, weatherworn bone, with skin either forgotten or discarded. It features a lipless mouth with blackened gums holding too-long teeth, slitted holes for nostrils, and eyes that are swirling, milky-white pits of death. It has gnarled, bare feet and spindly, scabby gray arms ending in yellowed, cracked fingernails.
Abilities
Bound by the ancient magic of the world, the Suriel is compelled to answer any question truthfully if successfully snared, though it is notoriously cryptic if questions are not highly specific. It speaks in a strange, layered voice that is at once one and many, old and young, beautiful and grotesque. Despite its skeletal build, it is incredibly swift and powerful, capable of vanishing like a “shadow on the wind” or a “blast of dark”. It is also highly empathic, able to read and sense the thoughts and overwhelming emotions of those nearby.
Importance
The Suriel acts as one of the most critical catalysts in Feyre’s life and the overall plot. In ACOTAR, it reveals to Feyre that Tamlin is a High Lord and warns her of the King of Hybern's decades-long plot to break the Treaty and shatter the wall. In ACOMAF, it saves Rhysand's life by revealing that Feyre's own Dawn-Court-infused blood can cure his bloodbane poisoning, and shatters her world by revealing that Rhysand is her true, rare mating partner. In ACOWAR, it instructs Feyre to use Nesta to scry for the Cauldron and gives her the exact key to decoding the Book of Breathings (the second and penultimate pages). Its tragic death cements Feyre’s resolve to completely destroy Hybern and avenge its passing.
